From the Greek word ‘thalassa’, meaning “sea,” a thalassophile can be defined as “a lover of the sea.” It is the perfect word to describe me, someone who loves the sea or ocean. This piece was the first to be finalised in the series, taking an entire year to paint embellished in an intense texture all over the canvas sealed and solidified by roughly 20 layers of acrylic paint and 6 layers of a variety of fine oils. Metallic and green were 2 colours used to accent the hues of different blues and give depth to this piece. ‘ Thaslassophile ’ is one of the largest paintings in this collection.
